DISTINCTIONS, HONOURS, SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

Professor Disraeli Hutton's journey in academia has been marked by numerous awards, distinctions, and recognitions that reflect his commitment to education and leadership. His accolades began in August 1986 with the Graduate Student Orientation Leader Award from Bowling Green State University, acknowledging his exemplary service to the graduate college. This early recognition was followed by the S.O.L.D award in February 1989, which celebrated his exceptional contributions to leadership development at the university, culminating that year in the President’s Distinguished Service Award for his significant impact on the institution.

In the years that followed, Professor Hutton continued to demonstrate his dedication to education and community service. He received the HEART Trust/NTA—National Tool and Engineering Institute (NTEI) award in October 2004, recognizing his invaluable support of trainee development programs. His commitment to nation-building through education was further acknowledged in April 2006 by the University of Technology, Jamaica, which honored him for his contributions through the Student Teachers’ Association.

By August 2008, he was celebrated by the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work at the University of the West Indies, Mona, for his dedication to the academic development of his students in the MSc, HRD program. The following year, in February 2009, he earned the Principal’s Research Award from the University of the West Indies for his project on absenteeism in Jamaica’s primary schools, which attracted significant research funding.

 

Professor Hutton's contributions to education continued to receive recognition, most notably with the Mico University College 175th Anniversary Award in March 2011 for his distinguished service as an educator. He earned further appreciation from the Caribbean Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (CAPSS) in July 2011 for his impactful presentation at their 23rd Biennial Conference.

 

His influence extended to his community, as evidenced by the award presented to him by the Ministry of Education, Region 4, during the February 2014 Jamaica Day celebrations, honoring his significant contributions to education. In August 2015, the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work recognized him for two decades of service to the HRD Master’s Programme since its inception.

 

Recognition from the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica (CCCJ) in September 2016 highlighted his valuable service to the Council, while his article, “Critical Factors Explaining the Leadership Performance of High Performing Principals,” garnered the Principal’s Research Award for The Best Research Publication at the University of the West Indies, Mona, during the Research Days in February 2017.

 

Throughout his career, Professor Hutton has exemplified a profound dedication to educational excellence, research, and community engagement, solidifying his reputation as a leader in the field of education.
